MikeeeWhere is a good place to share code I've written and want to make open source03:06
furyFor Automotive Grade Linux, GENIVI, or something more general?03:09
Mikeeeit's just something super stupid and simple, the fan controller for a jeep because the commercially available shit is like $15003:09
Mikeeei'd prefer a place I could upload schematics too03:10
Mikeeeof course github exists, but i want to know if theres existing communities03:10
furySweet. Well, I don't know off the top of my head of any places specific to car hacking - I've seen bits and pieces scattered around here and there, github, forums, etc.03:11
furyBut that's not to say they don't exist - I just haven't looked much03:12
Mikeeealright I'd probably be better off finding a jeep/chrysler specific community and asking there03:12
furyYeah. This channel focuses mostly on Automotive Grade Linux and GENIVI - though we occasionally get our hands dirty and talk hardware :)03:14
MikeeeI do a lot of home automation so I think i'll idle here anyway03:16
furyI'm about to hack up my new 2001 Hyundai Elantra and try to craft a mount for a 7" computer in there that I can run AGL on03:16
Mikeeewhat sort of features does that offer?03:17
furyAGL is a 70-80% starting point for a production automotive software project, there's a demo video somewhere of the last time it was shown at CES I think. Basically, it has a proof of concept demo UI that has the basic head unit features03:19
furymedia player, Bluetooth, phone calls, etc03:20
Mikeeeah neat03:20
furyI've been trying to find ways to jump in and help, as well as learn how to take it the rest of the way to make a product03:20
Mikeeemy radio and my mirror-mount dash cam both have decent LCDs in them, i have been wanting to run a raspberry pi for a while03:21
Mikeeei have arduinos in all my vehicles, pretty easy to interface to a pi03:21
furyHehe. Raspberry Pi is one of the supported boards that runs AGL :) if I got time one of these days, I was gonna try to customize it to a landscape 7" screen; the portrait 15" one that the demo is targeted is a bit much for the pi, runs out of GPU memory quick03:23
Mikeeedoes AGL run services like a normal distro?03:23
Mikeeelooks like it does! i could probably integrate it with particle03:24
furyYeah. It's got an app framework and all, uses systemd, fires up a bunch of bindings for apps to tap into. Home screen isn't quite set up yet to dynamically accommodate new user apps, I don't think -- right now it just inserts a blank spot on the next reboot when an app other than the demo apps is out on03:25
furyBut yeah. Lots of info available at the wiki and docs site. Some of it might be out of date, documentation is as much a work in progress as the software itself, and things move fast :P03:26
Mikeeewell right now i have all my services running without a screen at all03:26
Mikeeeso any GUI would be a step up03:27
furythere's images on http://download.automotivelinux.org/AGL/ - latest release candidate for the Pi, for example, is https://download.automotivelinux.org/AGL/release/dab/latest/raspberrypi3/deploy/images/raspberrypi3/agl-demo-platform-raspberrypi3.rpi-sdimg.xz03:30
furyhttps:// sorry not http://03:31
furyif you download that image and dd it onto an SD card, put it into a Pi 3 and hook up a 1920x1080 touchscreen and turn it sideways, you ought to see cool stuff happen :) it'll also work on smaller screens including the rpf's 7" DSI display, but it'll just be shrunk03:32
furyBut after starting a few apps it'll run out of GPU memory and not be able to start any more and crash horribly :D it's limited to 255 mb for some reason at the moment03:34
Mikeeewell I have a thrift store nearby so lcds are cheap03:34
*** mdurnev has joined #automotive03:41
furyThere's also the GENIVI Development Platform which can run some sample apps, but I'm not as familiar with that one. But both projects share some common code. Both use yocto, build pretty much everything from source, so you can customize to your heart's content03:41

dl9pfleon-anavi: pong ... sec10:37
leon-anavi:)10:37
dl9pf10407 should solve it, but I suspect we need to merge 10409 first and reupload a v3 o 1040710:37
leon-anaviok, no worries, I applied a simple work around and I have an image now10:38
leon-anavisearching for the right power supply for rcar3 now :)10:38
dl9pfiirc that was 5V 8A ?10:38
CTtpollardcheck the polarity of the jack! (I may have 'broken' a rcar2...)10:40
leon-anavi8A?10:41
dl9pfthere's a built-in indicator ... a smoke-generator ;)  .... SCNR10:41
dl9pfleon-anavi: iirc 8A or 6A ... the gen3 has an input of 5V but internally generates 12V, and under full throttle, it needs >30W .10:42
smurraythe brick I got with my rcar3 died, I switched to another that's 5V 4A, seems sufficient10:42
dl9pfsmurray: well for what we do with it, yes .10:42
smurraygotcha10:42
leon-anaviok... I guess the 5V 2A power supply that I found on my desk is for another board.10:43
dl9pfThe board farm here shares single 5V 12A + 12V 10A supplies10:43
dl9pfI want crocodile-plugs built into my desk for 5V and 12V ;)10:44
leon-anaviactually, I have a simple lab kind of dc power supply 0~30V with max 5A :)10:46
dl9pfleon-anavi: those are very good ... just make sure you apply 5V and not 12V ;) ...10:46
leon-anavimine is low cost Chinese model so it doesn't fit well in the "very good" category :)10:47
dl9pfjobol: ronan__: please comment on 10409, so we can merge it and possible bumt 10407 to use it.10:47
leon-anavibut it is good enough for my hobby electronics stuff :)10:47
smurrayI'll have to pick up another 6 or 8A 5V supply, I guess10:47
joboldl9pf, I can +2 and merge. I can do that. have you tested?10:50
leon-anavigood news: m3ulcb works with the 5V 2A power supply that I found on my desk :)10:53
dl9pfjobol: thats what I needed to skip the missing CAN_FD on porter's 3.x kernel11:09

mdpdocs are universally unloved by developers14:37
furyyes. i haaaaaaaate writing documentation of my own software. but hypocritically, i love it when i use someone else's software and it has good documentation :P14:38
furycause the software changes so quickly, it feels like it'd be 10x the work to go back through and edit every reference in the documentation14:38
mdpit's the documentation paradox14:40
mdpplus we have to write enough in jira/gerrit/git/sourcecode that we consider it "done"14:40
furyy'know what would be cool?14:40
