IRC logs for #cip for Thursday, 2019-03-14

szlinbwh: noted with thanks.01:45
szlinwe have two proposals for master branch.02:03
szlin1. master -> Linus' tree02:04
szlin2. master -> latest stable branch02:04
szlinwagi: I've checked the master branch in stable kernel, the master branch points to latest stable branch02:05
szlinhttps://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/log/02:06
*** tpollard has joined #cip06:06
*** szlin has quit IRC06:43
*** szlin has joined #cip06:44
wagiszlin: hmm, it looks like it points to the last release from Linus, so it's not the latest stable branch. More the root of the latest stable branch07:02
*** rajm has joined #cip07:28
szlinwagi: uh, yes. You're right. The master branch in stable-linux points to 5.0 instead of 5.0.207:29
*** CTtpollard has joined #cip07:37
*** tpollard has quit IRC07:37
*** CTtpollard has quit IRC07:44
szlinbwh: one thing to be clarified, "latest stable branch" means "latest stable branch in mainline kernel" instead of "latest stable branch in CIP kernel"07:57
*** tpollard has joined #cip08:36
*** vidda has joined #cip08:54

*** brlogger changes topic to "Kernel maintenance updates (Meeting topic: CIP IRC weekly meeting)"09:02
szlinIwamatsu-san is working on releasing a new CIP kernel09:02
szlinbwh: Do you have any update on this topic?09:02
bwhI don't09:02
szlinbwh: thanks09:03
szlinwagi: are you around?09:03
patersonco/09:03
szlinpatersonc: please go ahead09:03
patersoncRegarding configs for v4.19, what do we want to do about arm64? Upstream there is just one giant defconfig and this is what we tend to use with RZ/G2 platforms. We don't really have a product driven config. I assume the CIP maintainers don't really want to maintain everything?09:04
szlinbwh: do you have any comments?09:04
bwhI was planning to send something about security hardenin options...09:05
szlinpatersonc: wagi had shared this slide - https://events.linuxfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/oss-eu-2018-kernel-config-dvhart-v2_Darren-Hart.pdf09:06

*** toscalix_ has quit IRC09:08
szlinpatersonc: perhaps we can refer to this mechanism09:08
*** toscalix__ has joined #cip09:08
szlinbwh: do you have any comments on configuration management?09:08
patersoncWe'd still need a reduced base though, rather than arm64 defconfig09:08
patersoncUnless we do want to maintain it all, but it's huge09:09
bwhszlin: We should probably review the options as I did for 4.409:10
szlinpatersonc: agree09:10
szlinbwh: noted, thanks09:10

patersoncWe have now made it possible for targets in the Renesas LAVA lab to have access to the internet. This should make it easier to run the Linaro test-definitions, including things like LTP.09:11
patersoncHopefully we'll get the relevant patches out this week.09:12
patersoncLittle progress on getting the CIP KernelCI instance linked to the LAVA master though. We're having some problems with the tokens.09:12
patersoncThere is light at the end of the tunnel though.09:12
patersonco09:13
patersoncThat's me done09:13
szlinpatersonc: would you like to share the issues afterward?09:13
patersoncSure09:14
szlinpatersonc: because other members might face the same issues in the near future09:14
szlinpatersonc: thanks!09:14
patersoncWe'll publish a guide once we have it working etc.09:14

szlin#topic Software update09:21
*** brlogger changes topic to "Software update (Meeting topic: CIP IRC weekly meeting)"09:21
szlin[Quote from Daniel] Regarding SWUpdate we hit an issue that we had not expected before. Suzuki-san was trying to update the standard BBB debian image (or a yocto-made one), but there were many warnings about orphan nodes etc. After some investigation the reason seems to be that the rootfs is modified during the first boot (or something like that). This is probably one of the biggest problems with updating09:21
szlinimages instead of files.09:22
szlinI have little time in swupdate packaging task this week09:22
szlinI hope swupdate could be uploaded in next week.09:22
