laurenceurhegyiLast night I started to read into standards and the various worldwide and national bodies involved in creating them and the administration of them and so on. It's a bit of a minefield and I found it really quite unclear as to who does what and who funds what and where their different interests lie and so forth.10:08
laurenceurhegyiSo I'd like to include a section in the 'Idiot's Guide to Trustable' which I am currently working on, which will summarise this and give a high level overview of the state of play. I aim to have the first draft complete by Friday this week - I'm sure others on here understand this 'minefield' better than I, so if you could review this work, please let me know.10:10

laurenceurhegyiAlso, the IRC logs seem to have stopped logging on 24 December here: https://irclogs.baserock.org/trustable/latest.log.html10:21
laurenceurhegyipedroalvarez, I think you set this up originally? Could you please take a look?10:22

laurenceurhegyiThanks - is there any way to retrieve the 'lost' days?10:33
jmacsI have logs10:34
jmacsSlightly concerned that this Adobe thing requires Flash Player... that could take me a while to set up10:35
rjekNothing that depends on the Flash Player is trustable :)10:35
pedroalvarezI also have logs, I'll see if I can do something with t hem10:35
laurenceurhegyiadobe connect10:36
laurenceurhegyi?10:37
jmacsYes10:37
-*- jmacs should probably have tried this before today10:38
laurenceurhegyiI didn't realise, as I didn't have to install anything for it - it 'just worked' for me, using chrome. 10:38
rjekSome versions of Chrome have Flash built-in, but modern versions don't because nobody should be using Flash anymore10:40
ChrisPolinI'm not being prompted for flash player when using that invitation link.10:44

jmacsRunning Chrome now and it just has a jigsaw piece icon saying "download failed"14:35
ChrisPolinAre you following the link in the initial email that laurenceurhegyi sent?14:36
jmacsI'm going to http://meeting.unipr.it/dmi/ which is in the email Roberto Bagnara sent14:37
ChrisPolinThat takes me straight to the meeting, and chrome tells me the mic and webcam are working (although no proof of that as the meeting hasn't started)14:37
ChrisPolinYes, me too.14:37
laurenceurhegyiMy version of chrome is: 14:39
laurenceurhegyiVersion 55.0.2883.87 (64-bit)14:39
laurenceurhegyiIf that helps at all14:39
jmacsExactly the same14:40
jmacsAnd Adobe's flash tester site says my flash player works correctly14:41

laurenceurhegyiOK. As a workaround for tonight's meeting, I'll hook up the speakers to my laptop, so we can can all hear it. If you want to contribute then you can speak into my laptop mic. I can also project it but I'm not convinced we'll need to see the screen. 14:48
jmacslaurenceurhegyi: It works now. I have no idea why.15:08
laurenceurhegyiOK.15:10

mdunfordI was pointed at this as something that might be interesting for Trustable SW http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/security/ctsrd/cheri/15:46
mdunfordI'm not really equipped to make any assessment of it myself :)15:47

pedroalvarezright, so our irc logs server is not being reliable anymore, and i cant figure out why16:07
paulsherwood:/16:08
persiapedroalvarez: Is the backing store segmented?  When I've had IRC logging issues in the past, it's usually because I'm sticking everything in the same file/directory/database table/etc.16:08
persiaWith many solutions, it is possible to rotate these on some scheduled basis (weekly/monthly/quarterly, depending on volume), which can increase stability.16:09
pedroalvarezevery day is stored in a different file16:10
pedroalvarezlooks like net issues looking at the logs16:10
persiaAh, ugh.16:11
pedroalvarezhttp://paste.baserock.org/ekokamecis16:11
persiaOn day-per-file storage (assuming also per-channel), I've had issues in the past, unless I broke down the directories to try to have less than a few thousand files per directory (not that this is the issue today)16:12

persiapedroalvarez: Have you asked in #freenode about the other side of the connection?16:13
pedroalvarezno, I havent16:13
persiaThere's a bot policy: if it's not registered, sometimes bots get killed.  The log you show looks like supybot was unexpectedly killed, and isn't able to sensibly reconnect.16:13
persiaI wonder if freenode policy implementation is related (it may not be)16:14
pedroalvarezhmm16:14

laurenceurhegyiThanks mdunford. I do recall reading about Capsicum on the mailing list, back in August, I think. And this project seems to be a continuation of Capsicum. 16:34
