dsd | hey, hoping to do a bit of hacking on GNOME OS via buildstream. is buildstream-docker-images/USING.md still a recommended way to get started? the toolbox image doesn't work (passwd is missing from the image so you can't run the container) and the docker one gets a bit further but fails because python3-requests is not included there. happy to poke those issues further, just wanting to confirm this is still a valid direction | 07:34 |

juergbi | dsd: docker images built from that repo (they are pushed to docker hub) are indeed supposed to work fine. they are actually also used for CI. maybe some Python update broke the bst-here script and/or toolbox, have to check | 08:08 |
dsd | thanks for confirming, i will take a closer look | 08:09 |
juergbi | dsd: alternatively, our CI also publishes wheels on pypi, at least for Linux x86-64, so you can also easily install it with pip (probably best in a venv) instead of using docker | 08:09 |
nanonyme | juergbi: it might make sense to split buildstream into buildstream and buildstream-buildbox packages where latter provides static build buildbox for former | 18:13 |
nanonyme | Then you could version latter based on some buildbox versioning | 18:13 |
nanonyme | It's a bit of a PITA that you have to go through BuildStream releases just to update buildbox | 18:14 |
