furyMinnowboard dual-Ethernet, got an M.2 SSD in there, pretty zippy :D AGL boots up in like 9-15 seconds, not counting the 6 seconds before the bootloader kicks off. also been running off an SD card for a few days, and it hasn't been locking up on me, so either the dual Ethernet version of the board wasn't susceptible or the firmware got fixed within the last few months15:46
mranostayfury: iirc you can enable fastboot in the BIOS15:52
*** martinkelly1 has joined #automotive15:59
furyI did, I think. It skips most of the memory checks, and I changed the boot order so it jumps straight to the SSD (I can always reboot into EFI from the AGL menu, which I turned down to 2 seconds)16:02
furybut I haven't explored all the options, don't know what might break it to the point I can't even boot anymore16:02
furyI've seen a fast boot demo on YouTube of AGL booting from power off in less than 3 seconds tho, with all the apps launched. I'm assuming that's some sort of hibernation trick where the AGL state is saved to disk and restored quickly from there16:04

viksHi18:01
viksI am working on creating image for raspberryPi318:02
viksI want to build the image with agl-sota option18:02
viksHas anyone tried this before?18:02
viksWhen i build the image without agl-sota option, things work out, I am able to boot the generated image on raspberryPi18:03
viksbut when i build the image with sota option either image is not booting (4.0.0) or home screen is not coming up correctly (4.0.1)18:04
leon-anavihi viks18:11
leon-anavihave you tried the latest stable release dab 4.0.2?18:11
leon-anaviagl-sota should work there18:11
viksHi Leon! Thanks for responding18:14
vikswas there an issue in previous version (4.0.0 or 4.0.01)?18:15
viksI tried 4.0.2 too, it looks like home screen is not working?18:16
leon-anavilet me have a look at JIRA, there are a few known issue with agl-sota assigned to me18:17
viksDo you know/ or have you tried sota with the 4.0.2 version?18:18
leon-anaviyes, agl-sota works in 4.0.2 and you can make end to end update18:18
leon-anaviviks, regarding the home screen is it possible that you are having SPEC-671?18:19
leon-anavihttps://jira.automotivelinux.org/browse/SPEC-67118:19
viksI too just came across this Jira, thanks18:19
viksis this still an issue?18:19
viksshould I be trying specific version of AGL?18:20
leon-anaviI think it is still an existing issue18:21
leon-anavibut despite it agl sota is working with dab 4.0.218:21
leon-anaviviks, have a look at the docs about generating provisioning credentials: https://docs.atsgarage.com/quickstarts/automotive-grade-linux.html18:22
viksSo, for earlier versions, this is a known issue?  I am using18:23
viksI am using command: source meta-agl/scripts/aglsetup.sh -m raspberrypi3 agl-demo agl-netboot agl-appfw-smack agl-sota18:24
viksIs there anything missing here18:24
leon-anavilooks good to me18:25
leon-anaviagl-sota is there18:25
leon-anaviwhich version exactly are you using? is it dab 4.0.2?18:25
leon-anavihave you set SOTA_PACKED_CREDENTIALS in your conf/local.conf?18:25
viksHmm.. I tried 4.0.2, 4.0.1, 4.0.018:26
viksOh, i haven't changed the generated local.conf18:26
leon-anaviI recommend you 4.0.218:26
leon-anaviHave a look at https://docs.atsgarage.com/quickstarts/automotive-grade-linux.html18:26
leon-anaviyou need to set SOTA_PACKED_CREDENTIALS18:26
leon-anaviotherwise bitbake will show you a warning and you will not be able to do any ota updates18:27
viksI see18:28
viksCurrently, I am having trouble just booting up the image on rasberryPi18:29
leon-anaviwhat kind of a problem?18:30
viksI am trying right now to build an image without agl-sota, it should be done soon.. then I plan to build image with agl-sota just to verify18:30
leon-anaviok18:30
viksWith 4.0.2, the home screen would come up but there were no application/widget on the homescreen18:30
leon-anavithe agl-ota image was extension like rpi-sdimg-ota18:30
leon-anaviah, when rebuilding: make sure that you execute aglsetup.sh with -f (force) to ensure that your configurations are correct18:31
viksOh, thanks for letting me know, yes I had that issue and then I figured that --force option18:32
viksLet me check what file I used actually18:32
viksI used *.rootfs.rpi-sdimg.xz18:33
viksBut I see there are lot of files with different extensions.18:33
viksWould you be able to point me to some link where I can understand these files with different extensions.18:34
viksI am not always sure about which file to use actually18:34
leon-anavinot sure if this is described anywhere18:39
leon-anavido you see a file with ota anywhere?18:39
viksoh18:40
viksyes18:40
viksthere many files in /tmp/deploy/images/raspberryPi318:40
leon-anavibuild/tmp/deploy/images/raspberrypi3/agl-demo-platform-raspberrypi3.rootfs.rpi-sdimg-ota18:40
leon-anavilook for something like this above ^^^18:40
viksokay18:41
viksI see these files: agl-demo-platform-raspberrypi3-20171101150647.rootfs.rpi-sdimg-ota18:43
viksI also see this: agl-demo-platform-raspberrypi3-20171101150647.otaimg18:44
viksWould you be able to give some guidelines what files are important and what are they?18:45
viksbrb18:47
viksHi19:29
*** stevenvdschoot_ has joined #automotive19:32
leon-anaviviks, you need to flash the rpi-sdimg-ota file on a microSD card and boot it19:38
viksThanks Leon! Okay19:44

viksI am re-building images for 4.0.220:17
viksI created images first without the agl-sota option20:17
viksWhen I flashed the sd-card and booted rpi it is working20:17
viksNow, I am building with sota option20:18
viksWill see if it works without any issue or not20:18
Tartarusdl9pf: smurray and I are working out who can get on the KRACK stuff20:20
*** martinkelly1 has quit IRC20:20
viksHI20:31
viksLeon, I got the image with agl-sota option.  File I used is: agl-demo-platform-raspberrypi3-20171101193851.rootfs.rpi-sdimg-ota.xz.  I decompressed the file and flashed that to sd-card.20:32
dl9pfTartarus: ack20:33
viksWhen raspberryPi boots it shows the home screen20:33
viksbut there are no applications/widget on the home screen20:34
dl9pfviks: the application installation can take some time20:34
dl9pftry this: wait a few minutes, then reboot the board20:34
dl9pfthe application installation happens at runtime20:34
*** waltminer has joined #automotive20:34
viksdl9pf: Thanks.  I will try this.20:35
dl9pfif this does not work, there can be a bug in the ota build and we should file a bug (jira.automotivelinux.org)20:35
dl9pfviks: do you have a serial terminal on the board ?20:36
dl9pfmaybe check the systemd journal / system log if there are error messages20:36
viksIt looks like an issue with when built option agl-sota.  I tried without that option and it was booting fine20:36
dl9pfok - my best bet is then that the app installation at runtime fails20:37
dl9pfplease file a bug then so we can investigate the issue - tnx.20:37
viksWould someone from team try building image with agl-sota option please?20:38
viksI tried with version 4.0.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 so far20:38
viksnone of them with sota option worked for me20:38
viksI have opened a bug here: https://jira.automotivelinux.org/browse/SPEC-1022#20:39
*** waltminer_ has joined #automotive20:40
Tartarusdl9pf: Any interest in grabbing other fixes from upstream morty, or just the KRACK stuff only?20:41
*** waltminer_ has left #automotive20:41
Tartarushandful of other security fixes, handful of other apparently pretty critical bugfixes20:41
*** waltminer has quit IRC20:43
viksdl9pf: Is there a tutorial how to use connect a serial terminal with AGL?20:44
viksThough, I think people should be able to reproduce this issue20:44
dl9pfviks: https://wiki.automotivelinux.org/agl-distro/agl-raspberrypi#debugging20:44
viksdl9pf: Thanks, Do you know of any version of AGL that would work with sota option?20:45
dl9pfTartarus: can you paste list of the candidate fixes in jira20:45
Tartarusdl9pf: OK20:45
smurrayfury: is that dual ethernet minnowboard quad-core, or just the dual-core?20:46
dl9pfI had it working , but to be honest, that was a few month ago. Don't remember the version.20:46
furyquad core20:46
dl9pfsmurray: iirc it is the quad20:46
furythey do have a dual core version of it, but i wanted more oomph/cache20:47
fury1.91 ghz and 2mb cache20:47
smurrayokay, thanks20:47
furyvs. dual core 1.46 and 1mb20:47
furyMBT-422020:47
Tartarusdl9pf: Done.20:49
furythe M.2 slot on the minnowboard dual-ethernet can take a SATA drive of 30, 42, or 60mm (the most common form factor 2280 would hit the HDMI connector). i've got a Transcend MTS400 64gb in there now20:50
furyapparently next year's minnowboard gets NVM.e and full size slots20:50
viksdl9pf: You can add a comment on the jira, if by any chance, you found the AGL version that worked or didn't work20:55
viksI waited for sometime after booting rpi20:56
viksNo applications are coming up20:56
dl9pfTartarus: we can bump the revision for morty in the default.xml manifest20:56
Tartarusdl9pf: OK, does that push the issue back over to you then?20:57
TartarusOr should I be able to submit a change there to gerrit?20:57
dl9pfFeel free to bump the default.xml in branch dab of AGL-repo20:58
dl9pfor reassign it to me.20:58
viksdl9pf:  I am able to ssh to the AGL on rasberrypi,  do you want me to look at any logs that might be useful?21:00
Tartarusdl9pf: Lets see if I can fail to break things ;)21:02
Tartarusdl9pf: Doing a build now to avoid egg on my face.21:04
dl9pfviks: grab the systemd journal / system log21:04
dl9pfTartarus: i just have tomatoes at hand21:04
dl9pfoh no ... just cookies left to throw ;)21:05
