AlisonChaikenI built QEMU image from source on my AMD desktop.  QEMU opened with splashscreen immediately overwritten by console messages.08:23
AlisonChaikenHmm, I thought, perhaps QEMU needs Intel virtualization extensions?08:23
AlisonChaikenSo I did the same again on x86_64 laptop, and got same result with 'runqemu qemux86-64'.08:24
AlisonChaikenIn both cases, I see "warning: TCG doesn't support requested feature: CPUID.01H:EDX.vme [bit 1]08:25
AlisonChaikenDoes this simply mean that both my systems are too old?08:25
AlisonChaikenThat some this-year's Intel processor is needed?08:25
AlisonChaikenI saw that Aaron Eiche of JLR asked the same question on AGL list, but no one answered.08:26

CTtpollardzeenix: I did a study on building a gplv3-free GDP, there is a ticket for it11:38
zeenixCTtpollard: cool11:38
CTtpollardThere are plenty of caveats & plenty of presumptions on bitbakes output11:39
zeenixCTtpollard: we have gplv3 components in images or just sdk?11:39
zeenixCTtpollard: best if you could kindly find me the ticket :)11:39
CTtpollardimages, explicitly & implicitly11:40
zeenixhmm.. i know of the cpio but there is a PR i think to ditch rpm11:40

CTtpollardzeenix: https://at.projects.genivi.org/jira/browse/GDP-24711:41
zeenixCTtpollard: thanks11:42
CTtpollardThat was an explicit build, fossology claims to find gplv3 violations in many more packages that don't claim it11:42
CTtpollardBut fixing fossology spdx - bitbake support seems to be stalled both in Genivi & Yocto themselves11:43
CTtpollardI detailed this in a ticket, but I cannot find it on JIRA11:46

AlisonChaikenCTpollard I see that console messages overwrite graphical screen on both AMD and Intel processors.15:11
AlisonChaikenMaybe the host kernel or bios is set-up wrong?15:11
AlisonChaikenThe text console for the QEMU image, which I just bitbaked per instructions works fine.15:12
AlisonChaikenIt could well be, of course, that the "TCG doesn't support requested feature" error is unrelated to graphics failure.15:13
smurrayAlisonChaiken: it does that on the minnowboard as well15:14
AlisonChaikensmurray do you understand the cause?15:14
smurrayAlisonChaiken: the console over-writing the splash screen, I mean15:14
AlisonChaikenYep, do you know what causes it?15:14
smurrayAlisonChaiken: no, I've not had a chance to investigate, as it seemed a minor issue15:15
AlisonChaikenThere's more than one VT, as Ctrl-Alt-2 switches from console messages to text login.15:15
AlisonChaikenCan you see a graphics screen on MinnowMax then?   How?15:15
CTtpollardIt's always occured with GDP15:16
AlisonChaikenI see console log on Ctrl-alt-1, text login on Ctrl-Alt-2 and 'parallel0' on Ctrl-Alt-3.15:16
CTtpollard& AGL from when I've used it with qemu, maybe it's a weston issue15:16
AlisonChaikenBut no graphics anywhere after overwritten splash image.15:16
smurrayAlisonChaiken: with current master and chinook, you need to manually install the apps to have the homescreen do anything15:17
smurrayAlisonChaiken: run /usr/AGL/apps/installAllApps.sh, reboot15:17
AlisonChaikenSo then seeing text login on Ctrl-Alt-2 is expected behavior?15:17
smurrayAlisonChaiken: no idea, I've not looked at what consoles they've configured15:17
AlisonChaikensmurray run that command from the text login screen?15:18
jbocklagethe HomeScreen should come up indepentend of the ammount of installed aps15:18
smurrayAlisonChaiken: yeah, or via serial console15:18
AlisonChaikenPrecisely.   I see no home screen.15:18
smurrayjbocklage: it only seems to do that on porter15:18
jbocklageO.O15:18
jbocklageand on RPi315:18
smurrayjbocklage: hmm, I'll double-check, but I don't think it did on my rpi setup when I tried a couple of days ago15:19
AlisonChaikenAh, I have no /usr/AGL.   All right thanks then, I will have to go struggle with $JOB for a while and return to Toy Time later.15:19
smurrayjbocklage: definitely does not on mb15:20
CTtpollardfun isn't it :)15:20
jbocklageAlisonChaiken: you have to add agl-demo to your setup script parameter: source meta-agl/scripts/aglsetup.sh -m porter -b build agl-devel agl-demo agl-netboot agl-appfw-smack15:21
jbocklage(ignore "porter" here..."15:22
jbocklagesmurray: strange... I will build the latest version for RPi3 now to doublecheck15:23
smurrayyou can leave out agl-devel and agl-appfw-smack, actually, agl-demo has dependencies on them15:23
smurrayjbocklage: yeah, I'll do another build here as well15:24
jbocklagesmurray: then someone has to update http://docs.automotivelinux.org/docs/getting_started/en/dev/reference/machines/porter.html    ;)15:24
CTtpollardif you're using weston, do not be surprised if the the monitor in use determines if it launches correctly on boot15:24
smurraytrue, I do need to poke weston.ini for the gechic, I might not be testing apples to apples15:26
mdptangent: is this on chinook or master?15:28
smurrayI'd been building for master, need to switch to chinook now that there's divergence15:30
mdpI was just putting a fresh master build on turbot..so was wondering if my datapoint will be relevent15:30
mdpI've randomly needed to poke LayerManagerControl on several builds to have HomeScreen appear in the past. Wasn't a problem on vayu where I spent my time in the last week.15:32
smurrayit shouldn't be required now with the Qt change that went in last week15:32
mdpthat's what I figured fixed it on vayu15:33
smurraythough there was another change merged yesterday in that area15:33
-*- mdp reminded he needs to send a dash fix for mkefidisk.sh RSN15:35
