tcounihanew toy this week - test driving LTE home router09:07
tcounihalooking like I'm going to have to give my existing service provider the boot - with some pleasure09:07
paulsherwoodheh09:07
tcounihaI feel like I've finally arrived - I can remember the heady days of ISDN with nostalgia09:09
rjekFor a long time the fastest internet I could get at home was ISDN209:21
tcounihaI hear you - when I built my house - and I'm beyond rural here - I sunk a 14 core telecom cable from roadside into my house - now that was optimistic thinking - the irony now is I'm serviced old and new via wireless and zero signs of the local telco ever getting close to me09:37
*** gmacario has quit IRC09:39
tcounihaI think perhaps I'm so old now I take great pleasure in looking for ironic situations :-) Kinda like a mental suduko09:39
tcounihaor maybe just mental ... or is that irony again .. I don't know .....09:40
rjektcouniha: Yeah, we were out in the countryside.  Highest level of technology for miles was a tractor.09:41

paulsherwood... and another to implement CR-ROM standards09:57
paulsherwoodCD-ROM09:57
JEEBI still remember sending faxes a few years back in Japan09:57
JEEBthrew me way back in time09:57
dzendone that 10 years ago, with the hylafax project09:57
paulsherwooddzen: you mean implement fax itself? i'm talking about writing the code for fax machines, when they were new :)09:59
JEEBwas CD-ROM stuff the red book spec stuff?09:59
* CTtpollard has never sent or received a fax09:59
paulsherwoodiirc yes09:59
dzenpaulsherwood: awww09:59

JEEB(not that it is sane, either, of course)10:06
fredcadeteI still remember using something called "make"10:06
fredcadeteyou had to be careful with tabs vs spaces in a specific syntax construct called "recipe"10:07
fredcadeteit was insane, I am glad noone uses it anymore10:07

CTtpollardDid anybody attend the FSA demo at Genivi AMM, if so did the gui use the standard nav app but shrunk, with what I presume is a boarder layer around it?11:55
CTtpollardI've noticed after trying to run the FSA scripts on the modified build that the nav app changes dimensions, and the scripts makes reference to the layer ID of it11:58
CTtpollardok, rebooted, started nav app, and then executed fsa script. I have a shrunk nav layer & fsa over the top of it12:00

paulsherwoodeveryone mute... maybe it's waltminer's fault13:06
paulsherwoodyup13:06
waltminerNo I am muted now13:06
* paulsherwood wonders, wrt the kernel, could we not move forward, rather than backport?13:07
paulsherwoodchristian wonders how to make yocto patch the kernel on the first run13:08
paulsherwoodsuggestion is to mail christian's bbappend to the ml13:09
waltminerpaulsherwood wrt to kernel version I have that on the agenda.13:10
paulsherwoodchristian wonders about url for hosting the patches13:10
paulsherwoodif multiple patches, put them alongside the bbappend13:11
* paulsherwood wonders if they could be hosdted on a server instead13:12
paulsherwoodsuggestion is to also look at out-of-tree build later?13:15
* paulsherwood proposed using a known git repo for linux, and maintaining branches there13:19
paulsherwoodbut AGL doesn't currently host a kernel13:19
paulsherwoodwaltminer mentions he's been discussing with gkh how this should work for LTSI13:20
*** gunnarx has joined #automotive13:21

paulsherwoodwaltminer suggests we need to deal with new functionality case, but also LTSI patches case13:21
* paulsherwood suggests it woudl be possible to collect latests patches (eg LTSI) mostly automatically13:25
paulsherwoodcurrently AGL is not using LTSI kernel at all13:25
paulsherwoodwaltminer comments that renesas is mainly contributing to mainline13:26
*** nuohan has quit IRC13:26
*** nuohan has joined #automotive13:27
* paulsherwood asks why AGL cant just use mainline... since renesas and other boards are already well supported and we'd get MOST for free13:27
paulsherwoodwaltminer notes that historically AGL proposed to use LTSI - maybe that doesn't make sense at this point13:27
paulsherwoodwaltminer wonders about how to handle backporting in general13:28
*** egy has joined #automotive13:28

wschallerjonathanmaw, have you had any more luck with weston-launch?14:02
*** gmacario has quit IRC14:04
jonathanmawwschaller: I've found the place in the code where weston-launch complains about not being given a tty. I'm surprised by how it responds to having "tty" passed into it, so I'm hacking some logging into the source code to find out what's actually happening. http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/2.0/dev-manual/dev-manual.html#using-a-quilt-workflow has been helpful for showing how to see what the source code comes out as, and how t14:04
jonathanmawo alter it14:04

jonathanmawalternatively, I could use gdb, but I've learned how to reliably add patches in yocto, this way14:05
jonathanmaw(hopefully reliably, haven't tried it to completion yet)14:06
wschallergreat, that will be very useful I'm sure14:06

* CTtpollard looks at quilt 14:08
CTtpollardthat's quite neat14:09
CTtpollarddefinitely a more efficient method14:11
jonathanmawI'm not entirely sure whether `bitbake genivi-demo-platform` will use the changes I made to the temporary source dir, so I've stored a patch made using quilt, while I see how the build does14:12
jonathanmaw(and whether my changes are preserved after the build)14:12
CTtpollardcould add the patch to the append just to be sure, and tell it to clean the component14:15
CTtpollardif bitbake see's that it is already compiled however, I wouldn't expect it to try and re do it14:17
